Before you go shopping ...

Remember how after after 9/11 Criminal Bush told us to go shopping? OK, you have to do some shopping just to live but before you go crazy doing it, you should spend 20 minutes and watch this. But who has 20 minutes to spend watching a video you ask? OK, yeah, time is precious I agree but I bet you spend a lot more than that watching TV everyday. And besides, this is so well presented that it feels more like 2 minutes of your time instead of 20. So watch it!

Stumble It!

We have too much stuff..we use too much stuff..and we thow away too much stuff. The best is to be careful what you but and don't buy stuff...well just to buy stuff. Consumerism has to stop. we really are producing things just for productions sake and having a force sense of need for stuff....does that make sense :-)

How true, Diane!

Recently, I had to send my parents to a nursing home due to their advanced age and poor health. I had to clean up their house and put it on sale. The amount of time and sheer hard labour it took to clear out 60 years' worth of stuff left me swearing never to buy anything ever again.

Then reality kicked in.

Now, I have a strict test for stuff: It must be immediately useful and required in some concrete fashion (i.e., kitchen stuff only if it's going to be used at least once per week and the previous such item is damaged beyond use; clothes only if I literally cannot find anything to wear that is not the wrong size or damaged; books, music, and film only if I either get rid of something of equal dimensions OR it's so good I know I'll "use" it again and again). With libraries, Netflix, downloadable music, and the iPod, there's absolutely no need to clutter up one's living space with "stuff."

And nobody needs more than one closet full of clothes, shoes, and other personal items.

I hope someday that everything I own can be put in one suitcase.

Hi-O TPC. And your post makes for some great guidelines to think about before I go to the store. Not that I am old but I am getting older and the older I get the more I think, do I really need all this stuff? I have more stuff packed into my little house than I need or can use and most of it is just in my way. I like the idea of getting down to a suitcase or two, well maybe 3, someday. And I spent today getting rid of a lot of paper clutter. I need to go through the rest of it though!
